Trailer - Give 'em Hell, Malone (2009)

I saw the trailer for Give 'em Hell, Malone a while ago, and now it has a release date in limited number of theaters. Which means the DVD will arrive soon after and we all will be able to enjoy it.
The movie looks like a stylish tribute to classic detective films with a modern twist. Thomas Jane plays a hard boiled private investigator Malone, which holds a valuable briefcase, and the local mob boss is very interested to take it from him.

I like Thomas Jane. He maybe not the best actor out there, but he has decent presence on film and likable face. He is certainly getting attention from girls. Jane's latest movies are worth watching, especially Mutant Chronicles, The Mist and The Punisher.



Beside Jane, also in the movie photogenic Elsa Pataky, a Spanish model/actress.

Trailer - Newsmakers (2009)

New Russian action film Newsmakers is actually a remake of Johnnie To's action flick from 2004 Breaking News.

It was directed by Swedish director Andres Banke, that directed in 2006 funny and cool vampire movie Frostbiten.
The result looks very professional and very interesting. According to the first responses from people who saw it, the movie is indeed well done and very entertaining.

Trailer (HQ) - Sorority Row (2009)

And another slasher from Hollywood - Sorority Row, that looks exactly like hundreds of its predecessors, with bunch of young and pretty faces and one insane killer.
But such assemble of college girls caught my attention after all.

Teaser - Simpletons (Lopuhi), 2009

Simpletons (Lopuhi) is a new Russian comedy that I've found very interesting, so I'll post it as item.
Short trivia: the meaning of the slang word "Lopuh" is "naive person who is easily imposed on or taken advantage of", but it is also a person who, by being clueless, enters unexpected and complicated situations.

Anyway, the movie tells a story about three friends leaving their small town to find luck as performers in Moscow, and mistakenly taken as entertainment group, hired to perform a show in the night club run by local mafia. With no choice they perform a show, and it's so hilarious that the mob Boss drops dead from laughter (seriously - he dies).
Realizing that they are in big trouble, the three are fled the scene by stealing old car, that, how surprising, is filled with mob's money.
Now they are on the run from police, mobsters and hired assassins, that are after them. Now they are not Simpletons, but a real gang.

The people responsible for this film are known Russian comedy group.

Rumors - "Rome: The Movie" is in works

Just read the news that HBO's ruthless and bloody show Rome is about to come back in more cinematic form, as a movie, in 2010. And while I am certainly glad to hear that, something still don't feel right.
The show was very bold, both in narrative approach and in violence it presented, it was nothing like big studio productions from the Hollywood's golden age. The Rome as seen in this show was never displayed before, never was this city so realistic and brutal. And through all the blood, stabbed bodies and shameless sex and nudity, you could recognize true passion, moral ideals and even love. The greatest achievement of this show was psychological characterization of the Roman people - they are exactly like us, with all the faults and weaknesses of human nature. It was very amusing to see offensive graffiti on the walls, or first Italian crime organizations.











Anyway, whatever was the reason for ending the show, whether it's the high cost of production, or logical conclusion of the story, it ended on its peak. And while it could be considered as too abrupt, judging by the number of question marks and strong desire to see more, I liked the way it ended. After giving this show highest marks and placing it on the shelf with "greatest shows ever" label, I closed that chapter in my mind already, not expecting that someone will crudely disturb the peace of this nostalgic niche. But the world doesn't spin around me (too bad), and someone decided to bring the story back to life. So I have no choice but to shake the dust from this memory, and prepare myself to see more adventures of Lucius Vorenus, Titus Pullo and Atia of the Julii, with only one small request - I want to see same depravity and violence as in the show.

Pics - Angelina Jolie from "Salt"

No, Angelina Jolie wasn't arrested after, what looks like, mud wrestling. It's just a photos from the set of her new thriller Salt, filmed in NY right now. In the movie she plays CIA agent, that for some reason is accused for being Russian spy.
I am waiting for the photos from her interrogation scene, when she is naked and tied to the wall. Oh wait, it's completely different movie.

Update - Inhabited Island as graphic novel

The second part of the film Inhabited Island will be released to the theaters in Russia next month, and meantime the production company have announced that the movie will become a comics, sorry, a graphic novel.
The movie is also expected to hit world theaters sometime this year, probably in single version, which I can't see how it can be done. The movie is already rushed too much to cover all the story and it can't be any shorter. Their best move is just to release DVD with both films and to pray that people will buy it.
