  1. Lol, those mysterious and forbidden ways, I know what you mean. Anyway, my problem with these kind of movies is that they look like 'bad taste' clones of American action sci-fi movie stereotypes. Can't they make a sci-fi without bullet time, or guns and stuff we've seen so many times before and much better filmed? How about a little personal touch? And I don't mean they should make a Tarkofski type sci-fi.

  2. I think it's because they use a formula, an established concept. It's impossible for them not to make it a clone. By not using the rules they will end up with unfamiliar product that they can't sell. This is why manly looking protagonist that kicks ass and saves the world, good versus bad and blah, blah, blah.

Russian cinema is now in the stage where they need to prove to themselves and to the world that they can play the same game and be better. Later they will reach the next stage, in which they will understand that they failed, but it's not preventing them from trying now.

Besides, I think they are going more after French action/sci-fi genre. Did you see Chrysalis or Immortel? I think this is where they are headed, it's not really American clone.

And if you want to see good Russian action film, try to find a movie called Man of East: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1091989/

It has, what you call, a personal touch.
